Head Coach

Judit, a two-time Hungarian World Championship competitor and a physical education teacher, arrived in Edmonton in 1990. She has been the moving force behind the growth of technically excellent competitive gymnasts in Edmonton. Judit brings outstanding technical and choreographic skills to our club and to the province. She is an International Judge and has coached numerous Junior and Senior Individual National Team members and international medallists. Under her guidance, our club's gymnasts, represented Canada at the World Championship more than once.

As a recognition of her outstanding work, our Head Coach, Judit Berecz, was inducted to the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame in June 2013. She is the first person to receive this honour in our sport, in the city of Edmonton.

Judy Viktoria Martens

Judy Viktoria Martens

Assistant Head Coach

Judy Martens has been coaching for the past 12 years in the club, with athletes of all ages in recreational, provincial and national level groups. She is a qualified NCCP level 3 Coach who is also a national level judge in Canada. As a high performance athlete, Judy was top 3 on the Canadian National Team for 7 years. Judy represented Canada at many high caliber international events: 3rd at the 2000 Pan American Championships in Venezuela, 4th at the 2001 Four Continents in Brazil, Finalist at the 2003 Coupe d'Opal in France, and medalling at various other international tournaments in Europe. In 2003, Judy competed at the World Championships held in her homeland Budapest, Hungary. In 2010, Judy graduated with a Bachelor of Education in French Immersion Elementary from the University of Alberta, Campus St. Jean.

Marija Ilievska

Marija Ilievska

Competitive Coach

From the age of 8, Marija has been extremely dedicated, driven, and passionate towards the sport of Rhythmic Gymnastics. Competing at the provincial level, Marija’s intensive training schedule of both gymnastics and ballet weekly allowed her to continuously improve as an athlete. She further received the opportunity to travel alongside her teammates to various Western Canadian Competitions. In 2012, Marija began exploring coaching as she worked alongside Judit Martens and Judit Berecz as junior coach at both the Provincial level and Recreational level. Marija presently works as a Competitive and Recreational coach as she continues to expand her knowledge, leadership and experiences in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Currently, Marija is pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta.
